Samsung has been conducting tests on coolants for wafer fabrication from Chinese companies as it attempts to diversify its supply chain, according to a recent report by South Korean web media the Elec.

The report said that Samsung has not finalized whether it would accept the coolants as it was unsatisfied with their quality.

This contrasts with SK Hynix, which has been more receptive toward coolants from China, added the report.

Samsung and SK Hynix mostly used coolants from 3M. But the chemical firm’s factory in Belgium suspended production in the first quarter due to environmental protection issues, creating concern for Samsung. While 3M has since resumed production at its plant in Belgium, the two Korean companies had been looking for secondary suppliers for coolants from China, said the Elec report.
