(JW Insights) May 11 -- Guangzhou is becoming fast the largest base of ultra-high-definition (UHD) video industry, with its output value exceeding RMB200 billion ($28.84 billion), said Guo Yonghong, mayor of Guangzhou, capital of southern China's Guangdong Province.

Guo made his remark in a keynote speech at the 2023 World UHD Video Industrial Conference (WUVIC 2023) held in Guangzhou on May 9. Guangzhou is China’s first key pilot city for UHD video industry development, making great strides towards the world's display capital, added Guo.

Guangzhou’s annual shipments of display modules and 4K boards have ranked first in the world for many years in a row, and the core display technology has achieved a number of national firsts and world-leading achievements. Its 4K TV output, ultra-high-definition video program reserves, and 4K/8K film and television production capabilities lead the industry in the country.

At the conference, nine major institutions and enterprises in China's UHD industry made a joint call for more international cooperation in developing the industry.

Guangzhou is home to LG Display’s 8.5-generation OLED fab, Foxconn’s 10.5-generation TFT LCD fab, TCL’s CSOT T9 factory, and Visionox’s 6-generation flexible AMOLED factory.

China's ultra-high-definition industry has developed rapidly and has become the world's largest ultra-high-definition market in the past five years, said Hu Jinjun, vice president of China Media Group, at the event.
