The Miao Sisters’?Festival, famous at home and abroad, is a traditional festival of the Miao people.?Participants in the Miao Sisters’?Festival are mainly located in the core of Shi Dong and Laotun in Taijiang County in the Qingshui River basin of Guizhou Province, covering the nearby areas of Jianhe Gedong and Shibing Ma Hao.?At the same time, it is also a national intangible cultural heritage.

This year is the first time that Taijiang County has launched a global competition to select the “Grain Girl”?for the Taijiang Miao Sisters’?Festival.

The competition will select 12 contestants with excellent image, ethics and talent as the image ambassadors of the “China -Taijiang 2023 Miao Sisters’ Festival”. They will also become beautiful messengers?to spread and promote the excellent Chinese traditional culture, using their talent and charm to show the community the essence of the Miao Sisters’?Festival and its rich spiritual connotation.

The 2023 Miao?Sisters’?Festival will?definitely?bring a memorable carnival feast to everyone!

Competition Schedule:

1.Application Period: 8 March 2023 - 28 March 2023.

2. First round: 31 March 2023 - 1 April 2023.

3. Second round (top 24): 7 April 2023 - 8 April 2023.

4. Third round (Top 12): 14 April 2023 - 15 April 2023

5. Final round: 21 April 2023 - 22 April 2023.

Note: From 23 April 2023 to 28 April 2023, the top 12 contestants will be required to attend the Taijiang Non-Foreign

Heritage Cultural Training (Grain Girl?Training Camp), such as paper-cutting, embroidery, brocade weaving, etc., and the activity of picking hundred grains from 9 villages?in the vicinity.

Entry requirements

1. Miao and other ethnic women around the world who love Miao culture.

2. Aged 16 or above, unmarried and without large, bare tattoos.

3. Love the Miao?culture and understand the history, folk customs and traditions of Taijiang County.

4. Have certain talent performance ability, strong communication ability, lively and cheerful personality, well-spoken, physically fit and with good features.

Competition Requirements

1. Contestants need to prepare their own Miao?costumes, props, accessories, etc.

2. Draw lots to determine the order of play.

3. If the contestant is 10 minutes late on the day of the competition, she will be deemed to have forfeited her qualifications.

4. The organizer has the right to use the portraits, names and voices of the contestants for legitimate outdoor or video promotion, publication and release of related materials.

5. The winner will become the “Image Representative of Taijiang” for 2023

Audition method：

The first round will be held on the internet, with contestants dressed in traditional Miao costumes posting short videos of themselves and their talents in 1 minute or less on platforms such as Tik Tok, AAuto Quicker, Red Book, Wechat Channel, Bai Jiahao, etc., with tage #ChineseSistersFestival@TaijiangToday@TaijiangRelatedMedia to participate in the audition. The top 50 cumulative likes and views will go through to the next round.

Competition events

1. Self-introduction (name, major, hobbies, work or campus life).

2. Talent performance (singing, dancing, instruments, etc.).

3. Costumes presentation: The contestants will be dressed in Miao costumes of various clans. In this session, the contestants are required to give an impromptu explanation of their own dress according to their understanding, including their knowledge of the Miao Sisters’ Festival and Miao folklore. (1 minute limited)

Crowning of Honour

Participating in this competition will give you the opportunity to become the image representative of the China-Taijiang 2023 Miao Sisters’ Festival to showcase the cultural connotations of the Taijiang Miao people to the whole country and the world!
